From what Ive learnt, marketing is all about how make a product get noticed and grab media attention in the shortest possible span of time. An effective campaign can either be subtle, the get-under-your-skin kinds or be totally in-your-face. In the music industry its the latter route that finds much success, which is why flamboyance and distinctiveness is a part of the game. The O+ Promotional Media Package is just that!Ideal for single song releases and candid promos, the kit includes music access via a vinyl record, compact disc, USB flash drive and as an iTunes Download Code, bundled together. The only limitation is its memory size, not too big.

As designer David Riesenberg admits, it may not be commercially feasible to mass produce this concept, but for novelty special editions and buzz creation, this medium can be viable.

The way it works is this: the solid CD base accommodates a distortion proof vinyl layer, and the detachable USB flash drive accommodates the different spindle size.

The idea looks like it can create a major impact, any takers?

The Ultimate Music Streaming Experience Sonos S5 Review

The Ultimate Music Streaming Experience Sonos S5 Review

I’ve spent the past two months with my Sonos S5 and have concluded it provides the best music streaming experience to date. I’m no newbie to the marvels of wireless music but my audio ecosystem was split up between what iTunes could handle and what my PS3 could stream. The Sonos S5 brings everything from my personal music library to external sources like Pandora, SIRIUS, and internet radio into one neat high fidelity package.

I won’t muddle over details about what you get and how you set it up. Quite frankly, it’s simple. Take it out of the box, plug the power cable in, plug the ethernet cable into your wireless router, and turn it on. The syncing process only has to be done once and from then on, you never really have to touch it again. The system can be totally controlled thru your iPhone or the newly launched iPad app which is beautiful and easy to use.

I keep using the word system instead of speaker because each speaker can operate independently or in tandem with other units each called a Zone. In theory you could have up to 32 of these bad boys, one in each room and closet of your home. Talk about surround sound! Of course we were only sent one so I can’t vouch for the multi-unit auditory, orgasmic bliss but from what I’ve read, there is no lag between each Zone so you won’t hear a strange echoing effect.

The real fun is in the iOS apps. Sonos have done an amazing job organizing what could be a mess with intuitive controls that work for every streaming situation. All your basic functions like pausing, playing, selecting and navigating playlists are there. The real power is in creating playlists on the fly, searching your library and even enabling other iPhone/iPad users to join in and become guest DJ’s. One particular function I love is the sleep mode. I love to set mine to 30 minutes and let the music lull me to sleep.

If you step back and think about what Sonos are trying to do, you realize this is the future of music. It doesn’t matter where it comes from. It only matters that you pick up one device, something as ubiquitous as a phone and your entire music library, be it on a hard drive or somewhere in a cloud, is instantly accessible. All the boundaries have disappeared once you “cut the cord.”

What we love:

  • High quality audio in a medium size package
  • Choice of black or white
  • Only $399, a bargain considering what it can do
  • iOS apps are free to download
  • Easy setup

What could be improved:

  • Make a wood version, it will sell

Sony Eclipse Solar Media Player Concept By Hoang M Nguyen amp Anh Nguyen

Sony Eclipse Solar Media Player Concept By Hoang M Nguyen amp Anh Nguyen

Eclipse is a media player that uses the photovoltaic cells on its backside to draw in solar power and sticks onto the window via a suction cup. As expected of any good media player, this one too features Bluetooth connectivity to steam in music from your MP3 player or catch weather updates, podcasts & radio. The speakers are built-in but the cutest aspect to the design is the compartment to hold your music device. It resembles the compartment used in cassette tape players from yester-years; the evident eject button et all!

Suggestions for Android and iPhone users to download Eclipse App for “interesting screen savers as you play your favorite songs”, sounds cool! Perks of being a concept I tell you!

Walnut Player By YuKwang Kang

Walnut Player By YuKwang Kang

You learn something new every single day. Today I learned a term for an action for which, before today, I did not know the name of. It’s “walnut rolling” and it applies to the spinning of two spherical objects in your hand. You’ve done it before, I’m sure. Designer YuKwang Kang took this action and turned it into an MP3 player. It’s the aptly named “Walnut Player” to the rescue! Spin me some music!

This Walnut Player is made for your health and for having lots o’ fun. Made for the visually impaired AND for anyone else who enjoys awesome stuff, the Walnut Player works with braille writing along the sides of the nuts of which it is comprised along with a single button and finger-pressure movement applied through walnut-rolling.

And then while you’re at it, why not use that rolling to charge up some energy? The Walnut Player doesn’t need to be plugged into anything to be charged up, nay! The Walnut Player is charged up by the same Walnut Rolling that allows you to change tracks and better your health!

All of it by the power of rolling nuts!
