Modular LED Lighting System By Adam Wendel

Modular LED Lighting System By Adam Wendel

This contemporary and functional modular lighting concept allows users to create the perfect arrangement depending on size or intention. Suspended from the ceiling or adapted to a table lamp base, the object can live 2-dimensionally or the components can be rotated and conjoined creating a unique 3-D form. I love the floating “chemical structure” look of the finished product.

Rabo LED Curing Light By Oded Shorer And Saar Raz

Rabo LED Curing Light By Oded Shorer And Saar Raz

Being a lover of candy, I am all-too-familiar with this little gadget. Curing lights are primarily used in the dental industry for rapid curing of resin (fillings). This pocket-size pen from Milestone-Studio is cordless but yields high-power LED output. It’s lightweight ergonomic design and interchangeable tips make frequent use a walk in the park.

Story Tent Light By Hong Ying Guo

Story Tent Light By Hong Ying Guo

When I was a kid there were always 2 things I needed to get to sleep: a bedtime story, and a nightlight. The Story Tent Light by Hong Ying Guo combines both into an interactive tent shaped projector, reminiscent of the forts and tents we all constructed growing up. By rotating the top section the Story Tent projects sequential light images through interchangeable frames to tell a brief animated story. This active design encourages using the imagination and provides tranquil light for a peaceful sleep; something both parents and children can enjoy together.

Starrynight is a combination light and nightlight that recreates the starry night sky while being energy efficient.A transparent light-collecting module (provided by Mechanical and Systems Research Laboratories [MSL]/Industrial Technology Research Institute [ITRI]) serves as an exterior lampshade. There’s a photovoltaic layer that charges a battery to power the night light function which is when the “stars light up.” Beautiful idea. Do want!

Starrynight Lamp is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Award Winning Entry.

Teardrop Lamp By Dragos Iliescu

Teardrop Lamp By Dragos Iliescu

The following is a project that encapsulates the position of Venus, a lamp made in the image of her femininity, displaying both finesse and beauty as it sets the room alight with it’s inner glow. The intensity of this glow is adjustable with a simple switch that slides up and down for more or less light. At its lowest, this lamp provides a lovely nightlight for late darkness runs for water. At its brightest, Teardrop Lamp provides enough light for a reading light for the smallest text.

If you’ll take a closer look at these lamps, you’ll see that they’d be appropriate for basically any room, acting as sculptures as they work their electric magic to bring light to your life. They’re modeled after a famous Venus sculpture, so they’ve got one fantastic source for inspired beauty. It’s not the display of artwork that you’ve got here, it’s the display of light, and what a display it is!

Moving Light Lamp And Mop Design By Arthur Xin Se Xin

Moving Light Lamp And Mop Design By Arthur Xin Se Xin

No I’m for real, “External Light” is a concept floor lamp that relies on you to mop your floors regularly to store kinetic energy to power the lamp integrated into the entire length of the stick. Novel idea but there’s a deeper meaning. Designer Arthur Xin is one designer on spiritual journey and his work represents a symbolic way of mopping up the bad to create positive energy.

Tron Light Cycle By Wallace Campbell

Tron Light Cycle By Wallace Campbell

Iterations and iterations! If there’s one thing a tech and design writer cannot possibly ignore or resist, it’s Tron. With this brand freaking new movie Tron: Legacy out now, the folks at Disney have basically a sure shot as far as the internet crowd goes, and for the most part, everyone riding on the wave has their own shot at fifteen minutes of fame. Here’s a designer taking that opportunity to the max with some alternate Light Cycle designs made for your pleasure!

This project is simply an exercise in enjoyment with designer Wallace Campbell following what he sees as the essential elements included in a Light Cycle, bringing unto the world another iteration with super sweet bright lights and blackness, all you could ever want.

A hubless wheel system, light trail, and glowing accent lights are amongst Campbell’s self-imposed rules for the bike. Included also are a set of reality based parameters in place to bring the bike closer to a real world production. Included in this list are a windshield, side view mirrors, ecgonomical seat, and more. There is a faring on the left side of the vehicle but not the right simply in order to show off the turbine style engine.

Chromosoma By Javier Alejandre

Chromosoma By Javier Alejandre

Behold a lovely plug-n-play lamp, one where you decide how it looks based on how you put the pieces together. It’s called ChromoSoma and it’s designed by Javier Alejandre. It’s a brilliantly simply yet hugely and decidedly thick lamp made for those with a taste for the floor-sitting nature it inflicts. Made up of two pieces: base and branch, each new piece creating a new bit of tree, creating your own personal forestral moment.

It’s a genealogical tree, one that you make real. each chromosome you determine, each piece of glazed ceramics you attach. The production system of this project is plaster cast, the creation of each piece unique, making the whole project a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

The creator of this project once had a website at http://javieralejandre.co.cc/, but it seems to be down now. If anyone has an idea of where J.A. has run off to, please leave note or let us know of a new address.

Pouring Light Lamp By Yeongwoo Kim

Pouring Light Lamp By Yeongwoo Kim

Human actions play such a significant role in design; its either evident in the form or in the function. In the Pouring Light, the action is evident in the form and is delightfully executed as well! With the motive of giving off an emotional flow of light, the lights linger on with a mesmerizing effect thanks to the use of phosphorescence in the water part. Yeongwoo suggests the use of LED lights to conserve energy, and my suggestion to him: get this in the market ASAP!

The Scallop Lamp takes obvious inspiration from sea shells and is quite an interesting design. Besides being a floor lamp for ornamental purposes, it doubles up as a flashlight! The top projection detaches to become the handy torch during lights-out. Now thats what I call really clever designing! It looks chic, has dual purpose and makes total sense!

Touching Lamp By Shay Carmon And Ben Klinger

Touching Lamp By Shay Carmon And Ben Klinger

Between the two luminous bodies there is nothing until they touch. Once these luminous bodies touch, there is light. This is a unique lamp in that you physically have to make the connection in a way not many people are aware of when they turn on any other light source. You close the loop yourself, you make that electricity flow. This is “Touching Lamp” and it’s designed by Shay Carmon and Ben Klinger, who’ve left the light at 12 volts so it’s completely safe to touch.

You might get a tiny little zip zap rap, but you wont get hurt. Have you ever touched a live socket wire? That’s the one that hurts. This one’s voltage is low enough that I daresay it’d be considered safe for the home. Probably still not for the littlest kids though. They get crazy.

All of the lamps parts are exposed. Electric wires are replaced by aluminum strips embedded in the oak beams, all aluminum joints work as conductors, and the lightshade, also made of aluminum, works as both a switch and a reflector to direct light.

Each luminous body has two joints, all four together give this lamp a giant freedom of movement and countless combinations of display possiblities.

Made of aluminum and oak wood.
