Braille Punch Sticker By Kim Joonmin Kim Seonil amp Lee Eunjoo

Braille Punch Sticker By Kim Joonmin Kim Seonil amp Lee Eunjoo

The Braille Punch Sticker reminds me of the Label Maker we saw two years ago. Like all processes, innovation sometimes comes in refinements. This one comes in a sleeker package, no cumbersome wheel and an easy punching mechanism. What remains the same is the sticker aspect. Neat!

Voim - Smartphone For The Visually Impaired By Youngseong Kim amp Eunsol Yeom

Voim (seeing in Korean) is a smartphone concept for the blind that includes functions to make communication easier. It features route navigation, word recognition and object identification, which are displayed as braille on a silicon screen or transmitted as audio cues via the detachable bluetooth headset. Although smartphone applications & braille cell phones do exists, a full-fledged concept like this is a ways away.

Brainovi Braille Navigation Map With 3-D Effects By Seung-Hyun Yoon Seol-Hee Son amp Ji-Youn Kim

Brainovi Braille Navigation Map With 3-D Effects By Seung-Hyun Yoon Seol-Hee Son amp Ji-Youn Kim

The Brainovi is a Braille navigation map that uses a combination of verbal instructions and touch display, to help a blind person travel alone. All he needs to do is speak his destination into the device and wait for a 3-D map to pop-up, giving him a feel of his route. Corresponding verbal directions are relayed to the user via a Bluetooth earpiece, thus guiding him to his destination. The overall effect is to give the user a sense of freedom while traveling alone, without depending upon a companion.

V – Tape – Cellotape With A Cut By Zhichuan Tang

V - Tape - Cellotape With A Cut By Zhichuan Tang

V-tape is a cellotape design that dispenses itself! A clear-cut solution to the problem of finding the tape plus cutting itcant get simpler than this! My only issue with the design is that you cant really tear out smaller than the V – point tape-length. It will have to be one or more roll-lengths and this can get wasteful. Using a scissor will defeat the purpose of this design! Quite a paradox eh!

The V-tape won an iF Concept Design 2010 Award.

Huarong Chinese Intellectual Toy For The Blind By Xiang Pan

Huarong Chinese Intellectual Toy For The Blind By Xiang Pan

On two occasions we have showcased how to keep our blind friends entertained. It’s been Rubiks all this while, but if they crave something different then here is something more challenging; The Huarong! Its an ancient Chinese game of intellectual toys which includes judgment of textures and sense of shapes. I wouldnt want to dilute the explanation to the game, so I have left it intact for you to read in the accompanying pictures. Have a look.

Be-B Braille Education Ball By Danielle Pecora

Be-B Braille Education Ball By Danielle Pecora

The Braille system of raised-dots writing has always mystified me. It seems like so much magic that a person can read words and sentences by feeling bumps on a page. But it works. It exists and it is widespread. Braille dots can be found all around the world, in public and private places in every city. It COULD be more useful than it already is, but one of the largest problems in the way of this reality is the amount of people who haven’t learned to decipher the system. Danielle Pecora’s here to rectify that with a bit of fun.

Design group DESIGN 21 recently had a Game Changers Competition for global game design. You know who won this contest? Danielle Pecora. The project Pecora entered and won this contest with was the “be-B: Braille Education Ball,” a method for both blind and sighted users to learn the Braille system using a challenging and educational game.

The be-B consists of a ball and 26 magnetically attached pegs. One one side of each peg is a letter from the modern latin alphabet, on the other is the corresponding Braille character. Each of these pegs has a matching hole in the ball. The object of the game, as you may have guessed, is to match up each of the letters with its corresponding hole. Each time a peg is placed in a hole, and that hole is correct, a chime sounds and the name of the letter is “spoken.” Don’t get em mixed up!

Games, games, everywhere, teaching people knowledge so they take more care.

That’s the rhyme I just made up for this lovely design.
