Suspended from the ceiling or adapted to a table lamp base, the object can live 2-dimensionally or the components can be rotated and conjoined creating a unique 3-D form. I love the floating “chemical structure” look of the finished product.

Being a lover of candy, I am all-too-familiar with this little gadget. Curing lights are primarily used in the dental industry for rapid curing of resin (fillings). This pocket-size pen from Milestone-Studio is cordless but yields high-power LED output. It’s lightweight ergonomic design and interchangeable tips make frequent use a walk in the park.

When I was a kid there were always 2 things I needed to get to sleep: a bedtime story, and a nightlight. The Story Tent Light by Hong Ying Guo combines both into an interactive tent shaped projector, reminiscent of the forts and tents we all constructed growing up. By rotating the top section the Story Tent projects sequential light images through interchangeable frames to tell a brief animated story. This active design encourages using the imagination and provides tranquil light for a peaceful sleep; something both parents and children can enjoy together.

The following is a project that encapsulates the position of Venus, a lamp made in the image of her femininity, displaying both finesse and beauty as it sets the room alight with it’s inner glow. The intensity of this glow is adjustable with a simple switch that slides up and down for more or less light. At its lowest, this lamp provides a lovely nightlight for late darkness runs for water. At its brightest, Teardrop Lamp provides enough light for a reading light for the smallest text.

If you’ll take a closer look at these lamps, you’ll see that they’d be appropriate for basically any room, acting as sculptures as they work their electric magic to bring light to your life. They’re modeled after a famous Venus sculpture, so they’ve got one fantastic source for inspired beauty. It’s not the display of artwork that you’ve got here, it’s the display of light, and what a display it is!

We are not revisiting JAWS but are smitten by the very elegant Shark Bath. Its a tub plus shower system with additional jet sprays on the side arms. Designer Michael Samoriz was totally inspired by the oral cavity of this magnificent animal and has cleverly depicted its strong jaw line through the baths exterior extensions. Quite sophisticated and smooth for an imposing theme like this!

No I’m for real, “External Light” is a concept floor lamp that relies on you to mop your floors regularly to store kinetic energy to power the lamp integrated into the entire length of the stick. Novel idea but there’s a deeper meaning. Designer Arthur Xin is one designer on spiritual journey and his work represents a symbolic way of mopping up the bad to create positive energy.

Behold! An odd combo. Occasionally we’re sent some work or we find some work by a designer or artist that has such a fabulous air about it that we’ve got to post more than one of their works (however disparate from one another) at a time. This is definitely one of those times. Take a look at these two works by Rob Davies of Thoughtwood Fine Furniture and tell us if these look similar to you – lemme give you a hint at their common denominator: quality.

Behold the excellent craftsmanship on these two new-age pieces of woodcraft. Not only are they both innovative in their shape, but they both work as beacons for Davies, leading like searchlights back to their source: an extended collection of massively wonderful works.

Behold a lovely plug-n-play lamp, one where you decide how it looks based on how you put the pieces together. It’s called ChromoSoma and it’s designed by Javier Alejandre. It’s a brilliantly simply yet hugely and decidedly thick lamp made for those with a taste for the floor-sitting nature it inflicts. Made up of two pieces: base and branch, each new piece creating a new bit of tree, creating your own personal forestral moment.

It’s a genealogical tree, one that you make real. each chromosome you determine, each piece of glazed ceramics you attach. The production system of this project is plaster cast, the creation of each piece unique, making the whole project a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

Human actions play such a significant role in design; its either evident in the form or in the function. In the Pouring Light, the action is evident in the form and is delightfully executed as well! With the motive of giving off an emotional flow of light, the lights linger on with a mesmerizing effect thanks to the use of phosphorescence in the water part. Yeongwoo suggests the use of LED lights to conserve energy, and my suggestion to him: get this in the market ASAP!

The top projection detaches to become the handy torch during lights-out. Now thats what I call really clever designing! It looks chic, has dual purpose and makes total sense!

As I hit my head to the pillow at night, a thousand things rummage through my head; my next proposal, next-day schedule, unfinished business and most of the times end up getting outta bed to write some notes for the next day. How sweet it would be if I had a notepad and the Write? Light! on my bedside table. It is a lamp that gives off a glow powerful enough to jot down a quick memo. And the way it works is darn cute; kinda like the inkwell and feather effect! Pick up the pencil to light-up; place it back to turn it off. Simple and awesome!

The Write? Light! Won a Silver Award at the IDEA Design Awards 2010.

Wire hangers were really my first tool and resource to build all sorts of things when I was kid so it’s no surprise someone thought to turn a bunch of them into a chandelier called Light MI. You basically have a series of fixed hangers around a bulb. The shape becomes abstract but familiar in a whimsical way. Cool thing about this product? It’s real if you want it. Info after the jump.
