One Bike – Electric Cycle by Byoung-soo Choi & Jun-kyeong Kim

OneBike is quite an innovation I tell you! Its an electric bike that gets powered by kinetic energy. Basically when you set it on its cradle at home, the bike becomes a stationary fitness machine. So every time you pedal to keep fit, it harnesses energy from your motion and converts it to electric power. Tank up the juice and cruise the roads my friends! Awesome!

R-aid – Emergency Medical Transport by Angel Lee

Increased traffic congestion in urban areas means loss of crucial time for emergency medical teams to reach those in need (trust me, I’ve seen that Los Angeles is a medic’s worst nightmare). Designed to Roam and Rescue within Reduced-space environments, the R-aid is an ambulance attachment optimized for being pulled by motorcycle (here, the Yamaha Tesseract concept) that can quickly deliver medical attention where its needed.

Though its half the size of a regular ambulance van, the inside has space for a paramedic, additional driver, one secured patient, and all necessary life-saving equipment.

Toilet 2.0 by Dave Hakkens

Toilet 2.0 is ready for the future, it’s made from corian which makes it thinner, lighter and stronger. The shape is deigned to prevent splashes. It cleans with 8 different points with pressurized jets. This regular cleaning cycle makes it possible to avoid using cleaners that contaminate water systems. There’s also a built-in air freshener. It uses grey water to clean the pipe system behind the walls and clean water for flushing.

Convenient Battery Pack by Gao Meng

I think the Convenient Battery Pack style of juicing will work best for DIY kits and projects where one is experimenting with Lab projects. I dont see a very commercial everyday use for it. Unless you find it fun to power a huge fan or torchlight using a bunch of these snap-fastener batteries. Its definitely a design exploration exercise in how we can redesign the AA cells and a look into how we can improvise.

Almighty Laundry Concept Washing Machine by Won Suk Lee

The idea behind the Almighty Laundry washing machine is that single men are usually busy executives with laundry as the least of their worries. So much so that it gets ignored most of the time. So what this machine tries to do, is cut down a few steps in the washing process so that you can just load in a rack full of stale, stinky shirts and bring out a lineup of fresh no-ironing needed stack!

Amazing idea; separate compartments for the boxer shorts, socks and towels have been considered. What I really like is the unconventional form of the machine; a rectangular closet-style rack that fits in tight spaces. So mister designer, what will your take be for a single woman? We can be busy executives too!

Shadow Cutlery and Tableware by Kijtanes Kajornrattanadech

I love this thought-provoking design. The result of an exploration into how intangible entities can be transformed into useful physical objects that represent their likeness, the Shadow series of cutlery and tableware gives the illusion that each object is being lit from above by a single light source. Each “shadow” is actually a separate protective layer between the object and surface that guards against heat and stain. A great conversation piece.

Slim Hara PC by Chang-Su Lee of Design Hara

The refreshed Mac mini may be making the rounds for slimmest and sexiest desktop computer but if an aluminum slab isn’t your thing, try this – the Slim PC. It’s a little robust looking, almost like a car stereo unit. The front face is capped with a piece of solid wood but the real wig snatching news is the iPhone dock. In an attempt to unit the two computing platforms, they compliment each other nicely – the halo effect.

CPU: INTEL ATOM DUAL CORE D525 (NVIDIA ION2)
RAM: 4GB
HDD : 500GB (7200rpm)

The Revolvy 2in1 has a very curious shape for a blender and mixer. When not in use, the appliance just folds up to one discreet hanging gadget, freeing up precious kitchen-counter space. I am in awe with simple way it turns from blender to mixersimply fantastic! Its either the blender-attachment to the top of body or the mixer-attachment to the bottom of it. Super cool and functional!

Completing Absence Lamp by Petra Schmidt

This lamp, the second part of the Completing Absence series by designer Petra Schmidt, is more concerned with shedding light on the issue of energy consumption than trying to be a quintessential lighting element. To activate the light, the user simply pulls the slightly lighter end. The self-regulating lamp will shut off when the heavier luminated end reaches the lowermost position, keeping the user aware of time and inspiring behavioral change in overall energy consumption.

Lady Killer Vol 1 – Robot by Atelier Ted Noten & Laikingland

The Lady Killer Vol 1 designers put it just right- this twist on the jewelry box “pokes a sturdy robotic finger in the face of convention.” Inspired by Atelier Ted Noten’s 2004 “Unstaged” installation of a robot protecting a ring, this take-anywhere robotic concept is forever prepared to protect its Lady Killer ring (or at least until its owner decides to press the button) . When the time is right the arm will rise slowly, turn towards the lucky lady, and extend toward her offering the ring. I do… duh!

VV-Talker – Talking Device for Deaf Children by Cui Chen, Wang Qi, Shi Kaiyuan, Geng Kun, Huang Jianbo, Wang Zhi, Qiu Shuang & Chen Zhen

The VV-Talker is a device designed for deaf children to help them overcome their problem in speaking effectively. If you can’t hear the sounds you make, it’s difficult to know if you’re pronouncing it correctly. The device has a screen attached to a wand. Sounds are associated with vibrations. As the child speaks, the device provides feedback on accuracy and teaches the child to speak with the correct “vocal vibrations” to achieve the correct modulation. Brills!

Bike Handle Lock by Sang Min Yu

Okay first of all, WOW. The simply named Bike Lock probably took some real ingenuity to create and I would LOVE to see a prototype. The handle itself can be detached from the main frame and used as modified bike lock but wait, there’s more. It can also function as a bike stand when you park it indoors. CLEVER!

Handy Meter Digital Meter for Liquids by Jeon Hwan Soo

One of the secrets to great cooking is to measure out the ingredients as accurately as possible. While dry ingredients are not so much of a pain, its the liquids that make me quiver. Handy Meter is a digital measure that goes around the faucet mouth or spouts of bottles and jugs, to pour out the right amount of liquid. It does away with the need for a measuring jar, hence increasing the accuracy. I suppose it has an inbuilt mechanism that terminates the flow of liquid, once the desired amount has been poured. This will be an ideal feature.

Porsche 929 – Concept Car by Julliana Cho

The Porsche Panamara is ugly. There, I said it! Maybe the guys at Porsche should have taken some notes from Designer Julliana Cho, because this electric concept looks like one hell-of-a car. This 4-seater has suitable comfort for long distance drives with the fam, but maintains the brand’s iconic fluid styling with some added severity and drama in the lines and contours that give it that necessary edge the larger Panamara needed to maintain sporty appeal. The catch… you have to share!

Tackling environmental and space issues, the designer imagines this concept as a community-share vehicle with a private feel. Members of the car-club could access a vehicle at any time from a central “docking” station where a variety of 929s would charge on a cleverly designed rotating parking structure. Personally, I want it all to myself.

Butter-Fly Camera Concept by Joh Minhoo

I watch with amusement how my daughter struggles to take self-pictures from her cellphone and our camera. Its a crazy fad but in practical scenarios, where you are a lone traveler, I think a camera with some kinda modification to help you click self-photos will be a great idea. Just like this Butter-Fly Concept camera, it has little wings that come out from under the camera. Easy navigation buttons and a steady grip, allow you to take pictures and videos from an arms length. Neat!
