Regenesi Fruit Bag By Setsu amp Shinobu Ito

A shopping bag is a bag and nothing more, unless you peak it up with some special effects. Regenesis Fruit Bags claim to fame is the ingenious use of reclaimed leather, specially sourced from Salamander. The smooth marriage of Italian flamboyance and Japanese practicality is evident in the characteristics of the shopper. Comfortable handles that sit easy on the shoulders and a series of internal pockets render it functional and secure. Because it uses regenerated leather, the bag guarantees durability, color resistance both to light and rubbing and a smooth surface.

Dimensions: Length cm. 30 x Height cm. 35 x Width cm. 10

The material: The regenerated leather produced by Salamander is entirely made of natural raw materials: genuine leather fibers tanned with vegetal substances, natural latex (extracted from rubber plants), water, natural fats and natural coloring agents and salts.

Sketch Chair And Cocotile Chest System By La Mamba

Sketch Chair And Cocotile Chest System By La Mamba

So what have we got here? Looks like a pretty neat chair and… a crocodile! What! Oh it’s a chest. It’s four chests! Made for children, painted green, textured on the sides to look like the lovely, cute animal from children’s nightmare dreams. And then there’s the chair! It’s made of minimalism. It’s black. It’s made for private and public. Together they are pretty good friends from the same furniture set.

You’ve gotta check these two out. Notice that they’re made by the same group: La Mamba. It’s a strange design world we live in where a design group both works for several different clients as well as for their own portfolio. In that way, these Mamba design dancers make a set out of this crocodile chest and this “deconstructionism” chair, as they put it.

Take a peek! Then look at the rest of their wonderful furniturism on La Mamba’s very own set of strangeties at their very own online portfolio supersite http://www.lamamba.es/

Visual Veracity Glasses For Social Phobia By Scott Tweeddale

Visual Veracity Glasses For Social Phobia By Scott Tweeddale

In case you dont know what Social Phobia is, hit this link to see relevant details. For the impatient: social anxiety is the third largest psychological problem in the US and no, it doesnt mean that the person suffering from it is mentally ill. All socially anxious people feel that their thoughts and fears are basically irrational. Visual veracity is a set of 3 pair of glasses to help such people cope with social situations that intimidate them. Each pair of glasses is designed for a specific social phobia.

The Glasses:

The first pair use’s wide angled mirrors to allow the user to view everything around them. Through this it also aims to challenge what people perceive as acceptable in public space.

visual_veracity2

visual_veracity5

The second pair allows the user to easily ignore any form of confrontation. It also aims to subvert the idea of design to encourage social interaction but to actually discourage it.

visual_veracity3

The third and final pair deals with the fear of eating in public places. By using prism mirrors it allows the user to see only what is on their lap. It blocks out everything else from view other than that of the prism mirrors.

Rescue Boat By Matthew Spencer

Rescue Boat By Matthew Spencer

Generally the focus is always on rapid action response kinda systems that help provide relief during disasters. The flat-pack recovery Rescue Boat seen here is not for rapid response but for post-disaster scenarios. The focus is on a systematic, reliable vessel that will help recover cargo and victims. It is stored and transported in its stackable 9″-deep form, with pontoon tubes detached; till its services are required.

The pontoon tubes add stability to the design and are attached when the boat is set in the water. The sidewalls fold up to become handrails and rotate further to become ladders, to help up stranded folks. Depending upon the retrievals, it can either be used as a flat space for cargo or pull up the foldable seats to accommodate 26 pax.

A tent stored in the floor compartment comes in handy as temporary accommodation, when you bring ashore the vessel.

Facts and figures:

- L x W x H: 14 x 8 x .75 (w/tubes 14 x 8 x 1.75)(w/tent 14 x 8 x 5.75)
- Material considerations: heavy-duty biopolymer (or aluminum) for boat body and pontoon tubes, steel sidewalls. Wooden or plastic oars, plastic or aluminum benches, canvas or synthetic tent, rubberized metal tent poles.
- Seating capacity: 10 comfortably, 20 full capacity, 26 maximum
- Sleeping capacity: 8 comfortably, 14 maximum

All Year Rings By TTNT

All Year Rings By TTNT

How pretty a princess you will be! Or prince! Or both! A set of rings, all made of basically what you’d call “regular” paper, each one cut out (by you), rolled or folded, and worn monthly (or daily, depending on how rough you are.) Each flower ring corresponds with a month out of the year. There are two sets: one birthday set, and one “yearly” set. Fancy!

TT:NT has for us a simply cute little concept here that involves a little paper, a little cutting and folding, and a lot of giggles. These rings come in one full set (”All Year Rings”) or in singles, packaged as a birthday card (”Birthday Rings.”) These rings follow the following follow-able list of pretty pretty flowers:

January – Carnation
February – Violet
March – Jonquil
April – Daisy
May – Hawthorn
June – Rose
July – Tulip
August – Poppy
September – Morning Glory
October – Cosmos
November – Chrysanthemum
December – Orchid

TT:NT believes that the birth month flowers originated some time in/during the Roman Empire. Wikipedia gives a slightly different list of flowers, but no other info. If you’ve got some insider info on monthly birth flowers, leave a note! That would be awesome.

Breathing Patchwork OLED Artwork Tiles By Shane Crozier

Breathing Patchwork OLED Artwork Tiles By Shane Crozier

The closest I ever got to needlepoint or patchwork was way back in school when I was forced to do it (for grades!). Looking at the Breathing Patchwork has stirred the artist in me to try out some artsy work in the name of innovation. Basically these modular light tiles are marriage between doing family patchwork quilt and home-made stained glass windows. Using your creativity, paint out images on the tiles (which look translucent during the day) and watch them to come to life in the evening thanks to the OLED emitter. Create the ultimate stained glass mosaic!

Details:

- Each light tile is made of a small, framed 150×150mm transparent OLED emitter.
- Layered onto this is a sheet of clear acrylic, onto which an image can be painted using standard water based acrylics.
- During the day the artwork is translucent in the same way that a traditional stained glass window pane is, but at night and in low light, the OLED emitter can be turned on to create a backlit stained glass mosaic.
- Each acrylic panel can be removed from the frame and washed clean with warm water. New artwork can then be applied with zero material wastage.
- Each OLED tile is modular, and additional units can be placed in any pattern along the wall.
- The frame has contacts on each of its four sides allowing for limitless customization of the wall within the constraints of the power supply and OLED driver tile.

Designers Note:

Breathing Patchwork can be used to display children’s artwork, family patchworks, or any other artwork of personal and emotional relevance.

Aygness Digital Menu For Restaurants By Yeli Tong

Yummy Tummy! But that aint a phone you know; its a digital menu card. Snooty waiters and stained-dog-eared menu cards in restaurants are two things that I detest and are a big let-down. Although I hear that some places in the Far East do have a digitalized menu card system, Im sure its not as sleek as this Aygness here. This ones got features like language options (good for tourists), image representation of dishes, direct order placement to the kitchen, and entertainment tools like news and restaurant trivia. It reminds me of the iPhone, but Im gonna let that pass. Now only if this means no leaving hefty tips, then its worth making a future reservation via this digital menu!

Peugeot Metromorph Concept Car By Roman Mistiuk

Peugeot Metromorph Concept Car By Roman Mistiuk

Picture this: you walk into this hub hanging outta your high-rise apartment and then it gently glides down to the ground level. Touch ground and it transforms into this ultimate car that looks and feels SEXY! This IS the Peugeot Metromorph and it transports you thru the city with ease. I dunno about your hometown, but where I live, I got to pay premium rent for parking my car in my apartment building. This kinda concept looks at eliminating parking woes. Hit the jump to see how this beauty soars.

There are some specific features that have been attributed to the Metromorph, to make it a viable concept:

Drivetrain- the vehicle is powered by two in wheel motors placed in the back. There are two battery cases on the back as well.

Interior- the seats are held by rotating arms which keep the seat level when the vehicle goes vertical or horizontal. When the vehicle is a balcony the seats are placed on a rolling base which enables them to become lounge chairs thus freeing up the interior of the car to make it a balcony. The interior is also left fairly hollow to accommodate the balcony mode.

Exterior- the car is designed to not look like a car vertically mounted to a building and still look like a vehicle when its on the road. So the wheels are concealed toward the inside. Rather than go vertically like many scissor doors today Metromorphs arms rotate closely around the vehicle allowing the doors to freely open in a cramped area like a garage.

360 View Outdoor Camera By Senka Agic

360 View is an outdoor camera system that captures the exotic thrills of extreme sports from amazing angles. The setup consists of three small waterproof video cameras with adapters, a display module and an external trigger. This means you get three different perspectives of the particular trick or maneuver. You can either place the cams stationary or mount it on the athlete via the adapter. Whats interesting is that if no help is around, the athlete can independently record the tricks via the external trigger.

In the mood of being vain? Hand over the 360 view module to your pals and let them get live streaming of your action. Best three tricks can be later uploaded to your YouTube account. Go ahead, and be a SHOW OFF!

Hurricane Storm Shutter Panels By Sachin Mistry With Fitch

Hurricane Storm Shutter Panels By Sachin Mistry With Fitch

Sorry, no hurricanes allowed in here. We spent all of one afternoon installing these here hurricane shutters on the entrances so you should probably take a hint, mister hurricane. What we have here is a solution to the aches and pains one must go through to install hurricane shutters on doors and windows when the season arrives. These are made of Lexan, which is normally a hurt to drill through – with Sachin Mistry’s shutters, the shutters stay fresh, minty, and un-screwed!

What’s that you say: un-screwed? The kind of un-screwed that means there was never a screw in the first place? Triflin wits! How is such a thing done! With sleeves, of course!

The brackets are sold as individual units and four units are required to hold a 40″ wide lexan storm panel in place. Each bracket unit measures at H:7 3/4″ x D:3 1/2″ x W: 24″. The brackets are made using Verton, which is fiberglass filled ABS to withstand the elements. Also, the brackets can be trimmed to size depending on the job.

So they’re good to go! This is basically plug-n-play storm shutters. Gotta love anything this simple to construct that also works fabulously.

Isis Sea Fan Refracting Light By Ruth McDermott

Isis Sea Fan Refracting Light By Ruth McDermott

Yes! You’ve heard of it in your historical legend class teachings, but you’ve never thought it could be harnessed again in our time! But it has been! The refraction of light, my friend, the very harnessing of waves of brightness through awesome, awesome science. What we’ve got here is an installation proving the power of refraction yet again, this time with singles and bunches of LED lights and laser-cut acrylic to lead the way.

Ruth McDermott, show us!

Behind curtain number one we’ve got history!

In the 18th century in particular, candles were mounted in magnificent candelabra and chandeliers which amplified the light through lead crystal drops cut into prismatic shapes. These designs were based on the principles of reflection, refraction and diffusion which were first written about by Newton and Huygens around 1690.

Behind curtain number two we’ve got factoids!

This project is titled “Isis Sea Fan” The Isis Sea Fan is named after the organic forms it mymics, (sea fans: soft tendrilled coral,) to create a connection between technology and natural forms. As for materials; the material that appears to be glass is actually laser cut optically clear acrylic.

Behind the third curtain we’ve got what I’ve got to say!

These are just shiny as all getout, and I think it would be fantastic to see an entire 2 story wall full of these, refracting and refracting, all the way up and down, side to side on the wall.

So very shiny.

Dyson Energy Bracelet Recharger For Mobile Phones By Mathieu Servais Clement Faydi 038 Mickael Denie

Dyson Energy Bracelet Recharger For Mobile Phones By Mathieu Servais Clement Faydi 038 Mickael Denie

Dyson Energy Bracelet is a gadget that uses Seebeck effect to harness energy and power your mobile phones for a few precious minutes more, when you desperately need it. Lemme explain a bit: The thermoelectric effect is the direct conversion of temperature differences to electric voltage and vice versa. This typically includes three separately identified effects, the Seebeck effect, the Peltier effect, and the Thomson effect. This is coz three different guys discovered it around the same time, however PeltierSeebeck and Thomson effects are reversible and Joule heating is not.

The designers explain:

Thanks to the Seebeck effect, the temperature difference between the surface which touch the skin and the other which is in the ambient air allows to produce electricity that is stocked in a battery. When the user needs to recharge a mobile device, he plugs it into the Dyson Energy through a micro-USB port (universal connector imposed to constructors in 2012) and can have some additional minutes in use.

Firstly, we have tested the Peltier element in its most common use: i.e. the creation of heat and coldness on the same component (Seebeck effect), and we have noticed that there was electricity production. We have met an engineer who allowed us to evolve on our project while explaining us that there was not possible to plug the elements serially. Therefore, we chose to work with only one element. As a result of many calculations, we have validated this technology payoff regarding our concept. For instance, some hours are sufficient to power its cellphone for a dozen minutes of communication.

The majority may be hooked to their digital players but there plenty of old-schoolers who hang on to their vinyl for dear life. Trying to appease this segment is Linos, a portable record player. Ditching the traditional full platter configuration for modern sensibilities, this player takes into consideration the space demands and limited mobility of regular turntables. Simply load the record to the lower spindle element and lock it into place from above. Pushing down on the power icon then releases the tonearm and spins up the record. Hook up the player to your comp via micro USB for sound and powering or use the USB power adapter with standard stereo jack output.

Audi-inspired Yacht By Markus Klug

Audi-inspired Yacht By Markus Klug

In my opinion, Audi exemplifies the essence of German minimalist elegance. Never known for pretentious or over the top designs, the Ingolstadt, Germany company has stuck to their “Vorsprung durch Technik” or “Advantage through Technology” philosophy since day one. Designer Markus Klug used Audi’s minimalist approach to automotive design to create this cross-over water yacht concept. In his words: “I wanted my design to be clear and direct, but also luxurious and sport…It has to captivate the onlooker at first glance, in precisely the same way that the cars do” The 25-year-old student said that he drew his inspiration from his passion for sailing with the Audi MedCup, a regatta series in the Mediterranean for TP52 yachts. Measuring in at 15 metres in length, with a mast of 21 metres high and a draught of between 1.5 and 2.5 metres, this ultra-yacht has sex appeal measuring off the charts.

Fellow writer Shane, besides being a brilliant with words is an ID guy with a remarkable edge. His Sputnik LED Lamp and Storage Chest is reminiscent of the iconic satellite that went into orbit in 1957. The concept features 4 individual LED antennae that can pivot on a universal joint to allow it to both fill a space and fit into crevasses. The base area provides the storage and is weighted with the power adapter. It looks spunky and rocks back and forth like those push dolls, without actually tipping over.

Ellipse Table By Peter Marigold

Ellipse Table By Peter Marigold

Table leaves. Where do you keep yours? Mine are behind the door in the study. I’ve got a 50-year-old table that uses one leaf to double it’s size. Here we’ve got a giant oval of a table that, upon pulling apart, becomes rather large and abstract indeed. The leaves that fit in the openings are made up of the pieces of wood cut off the boards used to make the table. Little teeny tiny waste!

This little doggy is still in the development stage, as most Yanko designs are. The first functional model is contructed of pine and plywood. The real deal will be Douglas fir, steel, and wheels. The expanded size reaches 3.7m long.

By using the waste material created while cutting the elliptical table top, the shape is literally turned inside out and order turns to chaos. Etymologically Ellipsis means to leave out or fall short. – P.M.

How does one answer for creating chaos as an industrial designer? As an industrial designer, graphic designer, web designer – do you aim to create order, or chaos? Peter Marigold knows.

Cherokee Studios By REthink Development

Cherokee Studios By REthink Development

Cherokee Studios by REthink Development is a new soon to be completed project in Los Angeles boasting LEED Platinum certification. Huge Kudos to REthink since this is only 1 of 12 buildings in California to achieve that rating. The building won’t be completed until September ‘09 but I’m so giddy with excitement that I think REthink and whomever the land owners are should just let me move in. Better yet, lets open the Yanko Design Los Angeles branch in the building!

Cherokee Studios By REthink Development

The live/work units let you live the Hollywood life while staying best friends with mother nature. When we talk about standard of living, we need to re-examine what that means. For me, that means better indoor air quality, better ventilation, more controlled natural/artificial light, less toxins, and a place to escape to like a roof deck. This building has it all. Details, details!

Cherokee Studios will consist of 12 condo lofts and 2800 sqft. of retail space. The 5 story building includes an underground parking garage and a rooftop “green” deck. The lofts will range in size from 1,000 – 2,000 sqft. with unique and distinctive floor plans. The living space consists of a state of the art kitchen, great room, bathroom, and home recording studio or office. Three of the lofts will have 17 foot high ceilings with mezzanines – open to a lushly landscaped courtyard. All lofts will have 2 – 3 bathrooms and 1 – 4 bedrooms. Interiors including kitchens, baths, and finishes will all be eco-luxury with high end appointments that have simple and modern lines while being environmentally friendly.20kW of the building’s power comes from solar energy. On top of that nearly 50% of the building’s total power will come from renewable energy.

Perhaps one of the things I really dislike about living in L.A. is the blazing sunlight. It’s nice to have when you want it but terrible when the heat wave is on and all you can do is cower in a shaded corner. The unique architecture has a dynamic facade that not only looks good from the street but provides utilitarian function by shading the interior, reducing noise, and enhancing privacy without blocking views.

The kitchen cabinets are all made from formaldehyde-free materials studded with Energy Star Bosch appliances (swoon!), Bertazzoni ranges and one of those snazzy drawer microwaves. Even the countertops are made from recycled content.

My favorite room, the bathroom is decked out; Hans Grohe fixtures, the same eco-friendly countertops, floating vanities, recycled tile, and one of those fancy Japanese Toto Aquia toilets.

There’s so much more to cover so I’m going to try and sneak in somehow, maybe score an interview with the developers and obtain more pictures. Stay tuned, errr – I mean online.
